Job Title: Control Systems Specialist

Compensation: $100,000 - $120,000 per year

The Opportunity
We are recruiting a highly skilled Control Systems Specialist on behalf of an organization providing automation, process control, and industrial digitalization solutions for the refining, petrochemical, and energy industries.

This individual will be responsible for the design, configuration, commissioning, troubleshooting, and lifecycle support of Distributed Control Systems (DCS), Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC), Human Machine Interfaces (HMI), and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems. The successful candidate will work closely with engineering, operations, and maintenance teams to deliver reliable, safe, and efficient automation solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, configure, test, and commission industrial automation and control systems.

  • Develop, modify, and troubleshoot PLC logic, HMI applications, and SCADA systems.

  • Configure and support DCS platforms for process control applications.

  • Perform factory acceptance testing (FAT), site acceptance testing (SAT), startup, and commissioning activities.

  • Develop control narratives, functional specifications, cause-and-effect matrices, and system documentation.

  • Troubleshoot control system issues, communication networks, field instrumentation, and operator interfaces.

  • Integrate PLC, DCS, SCADA, historians, and third-party systems using industry standard communication protocols.

  • Support cybersecurity, system upgrades, migrations, and lifecycle management initiatives.

  • Collaborate with process, electrical, instrumentation, and operations personnel to improve system reliability and performance.

  • Provide technical support during project execution and plant startup activities, and travel to customer sites as required for commissioning and support.

Qualifications

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Automation, Electrical Engineering, Instrumentation, or a related field (Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Chemical, Computer, Controls, or Automation Engineering preferred).

  • 5+ years of experience with industrial automation and control systems.

  • Demonstrated experience supporting DCS, PLC, HMI, and SCADA platforms in industrial manufacturing, refining, petrochemical, LNG, or related process industries.

  • Experience programming, configuring, and troubleshooting PLC platforms, operator graphics, alarms, trends, and control strategies.

  • Knowledge of industrial communication protocols including Ethernet/IP, Modbus TCP/IP, OPC, and related networking technologies.

  • Ability to read and develop P&IDs, loop diagrams, control narratives, and electrical drawings.

  • Strong troubleshooting, root-cause analysis skills, and knowledge of ISA, IEC, NEC, and cybersecurity best practices.

  • Experience with Honeywell Experion PKS, Emerson DeltaV, Allen-Bradley/Rockwell Automation, FactoryTalk (SE/ME), Ignition, Wonderware/AVEVA System Platform, Triconex, or Safety Manager.

  • ISA Certified Control Systems Technician (CCST), ISA Certified Automation Professional (CAP), or relevant vendor certifications are highly preferred.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced engineering environment.

  • Must be able to meet physical requirements, including lifting up to 30 lbs, prolonged periods on a computer keyboard, sitting, standing, and occasional walking through industrial sites.
